Hammer attack in high school: Education Minister denounces "unacceptable" images

At the Rosa-Parks high school in Montgeron, in Essonne, several students were involved in a fight that left two students injured. One of the students was armed with a hammer.

“The images of a student being attacked with a hammer by one of his classmates in the courtyard of a high school in Essonne are unacceptable,” denounced Anne Genetet, Minister of Education, on her X account on Saturday, September 28. The new member of the executive returned to the hammer attack that took place on Friday at the Montgeron high school, in Essonne.

The events took place around 10:35 a.m. during recess, at the Rosa-Parks high school, according to Le Parisien. Videos filmed from a classroom and the courtyard and broadcast on social networks show a student holding down a classmate, while a high school student hits him several times with a hammer. A violent attack, which ended when another teenager intervened and moved the armed person away. According to the local news site Actu Essonne, another student hit a classmate in the back with a crutch. 

"No one should attack the'Éschool"

Two people were slightly injured. They were taken care of by the school nurses, the school management said in an internal message, consulted by Le Parisien. The parents of the victims were also alerted.

“Human reinforcements from the police and the National Education were deployed on site” on Friday and were present on Saturday “to ensure security within the grounds and on the way to the high school”, indicated Anne Genetet. The police will be “even more” present around the high school “in the coming days”, the department's prefect, Frédérique Camilleri, said on Friday.

An investigation has been opened by the prefecture. “No one should attack the school, its teachers, its staff or its students. “I won't let anything go,” thundered the minister.
