Handball: in the turmoil, Frontignan stood firm to snatch a point

Le FTHB, sanctionné par la CNACG, a fait match nul (32-32) ce vendredi 13 décembre à Sélestat.

Not easy. Twenty-four hours after learning that the CNACG had deducted five points from the standings, it was very difficult to ask the “Black and Gold” to ignore it, to enter the Sélestat pitch in the same frame of mind as usual.

Difficult start

“The context was indeed complicated”, confirms Guillaume Crépain. “I think that can explain our first half. If we had had the same legs as in the second period, I could have seen us winning. We didn't defend as we should have. Serdarevic made a few big saves at the start and I think that made us doubt ourselves. We traded blows, but on the other side they completely broke the rhythm and we have to learn to manage that.”

Leaders on the field

According to the CNACG, the FTHB is no longer the leader of the Proligue. But for the players, only the pitch should count and, even if Dijon wins Friday in Saran and takes back the lead, nothing will be able to take away their sporting record. “When we see the overall picture of this first phase, with twelve victories and one draw in fourteen days, we have to be happy”, continues the Frontignan coach. “But the guys still felt like they had lost on Friday. The hour after the match was difficult, it proves that they don't want to let anything go.”

The end-of-year celebrations, while waiting for a possible appeal of the CNACG's decision, should help with digestion. “We talked about it the day before the match, we wanted to get to the bottom of it. But it's there, in everyone's mind. Fortunately, the leaders did the work in the locker room and the managers are working. The end of the year is coming at just the right time. Tuesday night, we'll have our team Christmas dinner, to celebrate this 12.5 out of 14. And in January, the players will work because I'm convinced we can do better.”
