David Douillet couldn't hold back his tears on the set of “La boîte à secrets”. An epidermal reaction that inspired his wife to make a remark that was unexpected to say the least…

A judoka with a tender heart

Behind his impressive build as a double Olympic judo champion, David Douillet actually hides a heart of gold. Invited to delving back into his childhood memories and family life in front of the cameras of France 3, the former Minister of Sports could not contain his emotion. With tears in his eyes, he burst into tears in front of his wife Vanessa and their children, who were clearly not accustomed to such a spectacle.

Vanessa Carrara's unexpected confession about her husband's sensitivity sparked hilarity on the set but also risks somewhat tarnishing the former judoka's tough guy image. “He cries all the time!” she blurted out when the host asked her if her husband often broke down. A revelation that took everyone by surprise, David first and foremost.

Often overwhelmed by emotion

This is not the first time that the ex-champion has let himself be overwhelmed by his emotions. In 2000, when he learned of the existence of his first son Christopher, whom he met for the first time, 10 years after his birth, David Douillet could not hold back his tears.

“When I met Christopher, my ten-year-old son whose existence I had not known until then, I remember telling him: 'I understand what you are going through'. And for good reason: I had experienced it myself a few months earlier, when I found my father whom I had never seen” he confided in the columns of Gala in 2007.

Since then, David Douillet has founded a large family of 5 children from three different unions. Myriam and Jérémie born from his first marriage with Florence, Mattéo fruit of his union with Valérie and the youngest Blanche that he had with Vanessa. An enlarged and reconstituted tribe, an inexhaustible source of emotions for this doting father who is resolutely very sensitive.
