An investigation opened

The accident took place this Saturday late afternoon, shortly before 6 p.m. In addition to the unpredictable weather, it was already dark when a 39-year-old man pulled over to the side of the D332 departmental road following a probable “mechanical problem with his hood”, indicates a source close to the case, quoted by the daily.

“He got out of his vehicle, another driver who was traveling in the same direction arrived and hit him from behind. He was airlifted to a Parisian hospital but we had confirmation this Sunday that he had died”, adds the latter.

The other driver was injured in the accident. After tests carried out by the police, the man tested negative for drugs and alcohol. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of the tragedy.

A known namesake

The victim, who died a few hours later, this Sunday, was from the department and was called Édouard Mendy, the same name as the former Chelsea goalkeeper and Senegalese international. Like his namesake, the 39-year-old father also played football, in a club playing in National 3.

After the accident, his club paid tribute to him on social media. “He is a former licensed player of the club, and his son took over this year to follow in his father's footsteps. We will remember Edouard as someone very kind, very smiley, and helpful”, we can read on Facebook.
