Health Insurance: This Very Annoying Bug Deprives Users of Their Compensation

In October 2024, the Health Insurance launched the experiment of its new automated system for paying sickness and maternity benefits in two departments: Vendée and Loire-Atlantique. The idea is to later deploy it throughout France. This system is supposed to save time for agents, while speeding up payments and saving nearly a thousand full-time equivalents across the country.

But, for several months, this software has been malfunctioning and making numerous errors according to an article by Mediapart. According to figures cited by the unions of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM), more than 10,000 insured persons have been affected by a problem, including 3,800 in January 2025 alone. Some payments are blocked by mistake in full or in part, so it is an obstacle course for users who nevertheless have other problems to manage.

A group of victims is considering contacting a lawyer to take legal action against the CNAM. Quoted by the news site, Pierre-André Lignon, a member of the group, recognized as a disabled worker, and affected by this bug, testifies as follows: “You have people who are on sick leave, so by definition who are doubly precarious,” he explains. Their job, during their sick leave, is not to fight against the Cpam, it is to take care of themselves. “

The Cnam responds

Exasperated, employees are also taking to the streets. Employees of the Cnam in Saint-Nazaire went on strike on Tuesday, January 28, reports the daily newspaper Presse Océan. Questioned by our colleagues, an agent deplores that ”  the incompetence and stubbornness of the Cnam management are causing a disaster “.

Contacted by Mediapart, the Cnam believes that the anomalies identified are in the process of being corrected. Health insurance does not mention a precise timetable for a return to normal, even if there is talk of a possible launch in 2026. In any case, there is no question of completely abandoning Arpège on the management side despite these dysfunctions. She adds that “The software deployment will only continue after the situation in these two departments has stabilized and all the improvements undertaken on the software have been implemented.”.
