Heart cushions made in Gard to relieve women with breast cancer

The knitters of the Uchaud tricot association have been mobilized throughout the year to support several noble causes. They did not remain inactive during the end-of-year celebrations, they have once again worked for a new cause that is particularly close to their hearts, and which concerns some of them. They have made heart-shaped cushions to relieve women who have undergone breast surgery.

“Help and relieve people in pain”

This action, aimed at these sick women, was born from a joint project between the Rotary Club of the Bay of Aigues-Mortes, whose president is Esther Mandrin and the Uchaud knitters, always ready to help. “These cushions have real virtues in reducing the pain associated with mastectomy or mammectomy”, specifies Florence Ferrer, member of the Rotary club.

They are offered to women who have undergone this surgical procedure. “They have to place them under the arm and positioned like this, they relieve the tension and pain caused by the operation. We provide the equipment, fabrics and foam, and ensure delivery. We work in close collaboration with the gynecology department of the Nîmes University Hospital”, she continues. It was only natural that the president, Marie-Jo Delon, accompanied by Claude Boyer, Roselyne Barthes and Françoise Gouttebaron, handed over, in the town hall, about twenty cushions to Florence with whom they regularly collaborate by also providing sets of baby layettes, intended for the maternity ward of the CHU.

An urgent need for wool

“It's always more motivating when you know it's for a good cause”, admits Claude Boyer, the vice-president.

Then, the president added: “It is with real pleasure that our association has honored Rotary's request to help and relieve people suffering from breast cancer or who have had lymph node surgery. We persist in doing our best to help in any way people in need. We have therefore offered to sew these cushions two to three times a year.”

A knitter numbering around thirty, who are always on the lookout and who urgently need wool to be able to continue these charitable and benevolent works.
