Heatwave alert: the departments where it will be the hottest

Météo France has placed 13 departments on alert orange for heatwave Sunday July 28. The heatwave is expected to affect the entire territory.

The heatwave is coming to France. After several days of rainy weather and rather cool temperatures north of the Loire in recent days, Météo France is announcing a heatwave across the country, including 13 departments on orange alert. These are Gironde, Landes, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Corrèze, Tarn, Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Haute-Corse.

According to the meteorological organization, this episode of high temperatures should last “until Wednesday in the south of the country, extending temporarily to the north of the country during the week.

Mercury is close to 40°C

In Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Haute-Corse, temperatures will not be exceptional, but “require special vigilance for sensitive or exposed people”, explains Météo France.

In the South-West, temperatures of up to 38°C are expected for the maximums. In Savoie, the mercury could reach 36°C. Haute-Corse could be marked by heat reaching 38°C. 38°C are also expected locally in the Var. The Centre-East should experience maximums reaching 34°C. In the South-West and in Corsica, temperatures will not drop below 20°C to 24°C at night for several days. Orange alert is activated around noon on Sunday July 28 for the 13 departments, which will still be affected on Monday.

Thunderstorms in the southern half

While a large part of France will spend the beginning of the week under a blazing sun, some departments will be marked by thunderstorms. According to Météo France, the sky will be " very cloudy from the Massif Central and the North of Rhône-Alpes to the German borders, with residual showers near the Jura ". Fog and mist will be observed on the Channel side.
