25 years of career, that's worth celebrating! Hélène Ségara offers a concert to celebrate her music with her audience. A show that should have taken place in 2022. But this period, the singer lives with serious health problems. Indeed, she is affected by macular degeneration which makes her partially blind.

For our colleagues at Gala, the artist has agreed to talk about this illness that is eating away at her and which has been for her “a great lesson”. “Some people I thought I could count on failed to show up,” she said bitterly. “They disappeared from the photo”. However, Hélène Ségara was able to count on her family: “I prefer to thank my mother, my three children, other members of my family, my friends, the two teachers who followed me”.

Hélène Ségara breaks the silence on her illness

So for her, singing in communion with her fans is a kind of rebirth. This concert was “a way of getting up and shouting: “I haven't said my last word!”. Questioned by our colleagues from Sept à Huit, Héléegrave;ne Ségara had confided to how much her illness had impacted her life: “I still don't know what I'm fighting, but I'm trying everything”, explained the singer.

“In April 2013, I was returning from Russia where I had worked and I woke up one morning with a curtain literally in front of my eyes, not understanding what was happening to me. &From there, everything happened in a chain. I had implants in the eyes. I had a total of about twenty operations.”

Several operations later, Hélène Ségara must follow heavy treatment: “I realized that I was really losing one of my eyes.” Treatments that will make her gain weight.

Noting “on the networks a lot of questions about (her) physical changes”, Hélène Ségara then chose to reveal her illness and the medication she has to take: “These were not small doses”, she remembers. “It was 1000 milligrams. So of course, I arrived in a normal state, I left, I was a popcorn.”
