It’s the weekend! If you want to escape the cold and rain that persist in most of France, nothing beats the warmth of a movie theater and the escape promised by a good movie. While the year started off very strong with the releases of Memoirs of a Snail, Love in the Present or The Room Next Door, new movies were released this week and there is still something to be happy about. Like every weekend, we have selected the feature films that are worth seeing for this weekend.

Please note that in UGC cinemas, the must-see films of 2024 are being rebroadcast until January 28, 2025. This is the perfect opportunity to see or re-see The Count of Monte Cristo, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Perrez (which is nominated in 13 categories at the 2025 Oscars), Flow, L’amour ouf, Poor creatures or again There is still tomorrow.

We owe him Angels and Feels solo or Patience and Back for goodwith the boy band Take That… Robbie Williams is not just anyone, especially in the United Kingdom. It is therefore not so surprising that a film dedicated to his life and career is released in theaters. What is more surprising is that he is represented by a monkey.

Like any good biopic worth its salt, Better Man invites us to discover the rise of the British singer and composer, from his beginnings with Take That in the early 90s to his solo success after a dive into artificial paradises. If the idea of using a monkey to play Robbie Williams is absurd, it works. After The Greatest Showman, director Michael Gracey has lost none of his brilliance.

Bold, Better Manseduces spectators (4.2/5 on AlloCiné) and the press (3.7/5) with an original staging, lots of emotions, themes as complex as they are universal and a catchy soundtrack. The special effects are particularly successful.

If you're looking for a movie that will make your romantic heart beat faster, Jane Austen WASTED MY LIFE lifeis perfect. The United Kingdom is definitely in the spotlight this week in theaters. Agathe is a big fan of the British author Jane Austen, who gave us the excellent Pride and Prejudice, Emma or Persuasion. Single, the young woman dreams of a love story worthy of that of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. Endowed with an overflowing imagination, life never lives up to what literature sells her. But when Agathe is invited to an author residency in England by the “Jane Austen Residency”, everything changes. She will have to face her fears and doubts if she wants to realize her dream of writing and falling in love.

Jane Austen Has Ripped My Life does not claim to revolutionize the genre, but director Laura Piana knows what she is doing. The feature film starring Camille Ruherford (Anatomy of a Fall) is good for the soul, funny, sweet and poetic at the same time. The press is won over and gives an average rating of 3 out of 5. AlloCiné viewers are more enthusiastic with an average of 3.7 out of 5.

Worn by Vincent Lindon (The Law of the Market), Benjamin Voisin (Summer 85) and Stefan Crepon (Lupin), Playing with Firemarked the Venice Film Festival last September. Indeed, Vincent Lindon was rewarded for his performance and won the Couple Volpi.

Playing with Fire is a family drama. Pierre is a railway worker at SNCF Réseau and he has been raising his two sons alone since the death of his wife. While one is promised a brilliant future, the other starts hanging out with far-right identity groups, far from his father's ideology. Incomprehension, helplessness… The feature film focuses on unconditional family love despite divisions of opinion. The press is enthusiastic about the idea with an average of 3.6 out of 5. AlloCiné viewers are more mixed but remain cheerful with an average of 3.3.

Released last week, it's not too late to discover The Fourth Wall. Starring Laurent Lafitte (Tapie), David Oelhoffen's feature film takes us to Lebanon in 1982. Georges made a promise to an old friend. He would go to Beirut to direct Antigonein order to steal a moment of peace in the heart of a fratricidal conflict. The actors will have to be embodied by actors from different political and religious camps. The project is as utopian as it is risky. Lost in a city and a conflict he knows nothing about, Georges will have to face the reality of war.

Both intense and captivating, The Fourth Wall is an adaptation of the eponymous novel by Sorj Chalandon. The press and spectators of AlloCiné praise the actors' performances, precise staging and a fascinating story. To see in dark rooms.
