Here's Another Good Reason to Ditch Your Old Windows 10 PC After October 14

As you may already know, Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, people who are still using machines that are incompatible with Windows 11 will have to pay for extended software support, buy a new PC that is compatible with Windows 11, or use an alternative operating system like Linux or Chrome OS Flex.

It is strongly recommended that you stop using Windows 10 after the Microsoft end of support date, as it will stop receiving security updates. But on top of that, if you use Microsoft 365 apps, you may encounter problems in the long run. “Using Microsoft 365 on older, unsupported operating systems may cause performance and reliability issues over time,” reads a Microsoft support page. As for Windows 10, the company explains that after October 14, Microsoft 365 apps will continue to work. “However, we strongly recommend upgrading to Windows 11 to avoid performance and reliability issues over time”, it nevertheless warns.

A controversial update

As a reminder, Microsoft is offering the Windows 11 update free of charge to Windows 10 users, provided that the PC is compatible. But the problem is that Microsoft has very high hardware requirements, including requiring Windows 11 machines to have a component called TPM 2.0.

However, this component is missing from a very large number of devices running Windows 10. Furthermore, despite criticism, Microsoft is not about to change its requirements for compatibility with Windows 11.

This transition to Windows 11 is also worrying environmentalists, since it risks turning hundreds of millions of Windows 10 PCs into electronic waste.
