Last night, during an Unpacked event streamed online, Samsung finally made its new Galaxy S25 series official. As expected, the Korean giant announced improvements to the specifications of its high-end models, as well as new AI features. The real surprise of the evening was the Galaxy S25 “Edge”. Indeed, in addition to the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung will market a fourth model called the S5 Edge, later. And, as rumors have suggested, this one will be a thinner and more compact model, like the upcoming iPhone 17 Air that Apple is expected to unveil in September.

For the moment, Samsung has simply revealed the design of its Galaxy S25 Edge. So, this is just a teaser for now. But already, the images allow us to get an idea of the thinness of the device. On the other hand, Samsung seems to have made a concession in terms of the camera, since the Galaxy S25 Edge only has two photo sensors on the back.

Quoted in an interview with Bloomberg, Samsung's mobile division president, TM Roh, said that the S25 Edge will be released in the United States and other markets by mid-year. Without mentioning the technical sheet, he also indicated that the objective was to embed some of the technologies of the model Galaxy S25 Ultra in a more compact format. As for the price, TM Roh simply indicated the S25 Edge will be cheaper than the S25 Ultra, so that the device will be accessible to a wider range of consumers.
Samsung chose the “Edge” brand to refer to the device’s slim design, but also to indicate that it will feature cutting-edge technology. It should also be remembered that this is a brand that Samsung has already used when it began marketing smartphones with curved edges.
In recent years, high-end smartphones have tended to become thicker. This is due in particular to the increase in the number of photo sensors
that manufacturers are putting on their products. For example, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has a total of four photo sensors on the back. But starting this year, like Samsung, other manufacturers could offer thinner versions of their flagships.
In fact, rumors are already circulating about the upcoming iPhone 17 Air that Apple is expected to launch in September. And according to these rumors, this thin version of the iPhone 17 would only have a single camera sensor on the back. It is also possible that the iPhone 17 Air will not have a slot for physical SIM cards, in order to save space.
