Here's just one good reason to use Waze instead of Google Maps

Today, Waze is an essential application for drivers. Indeed, it allows you to get from point A to point B with ease, favoring the shortest and least congested routes. Waze indicates incidents on the road in real time and updates the route to always offer you the most pleasant journeys. Waze is particularly popular with motorists because it indicates the location of police checks and speed cameras. Although these features have recently been curbed in accordance with new legislation.

A little over ten years ago, Waze was acquired by Google. This allowed the Google Maps navigation application to inherit many features so loved by Waze users. Such as police reporting. Good news ? Yes and no, because the latter is not available in France. Enough to allow Waze to keep the advantage.

Google Maps: a new feature limited to France

Currently, Google Maps allows users to report events encountered on the road, such as traffic jams, accidents, roadworks zones or stationary vehicles. But reporting mobile speed cameras has never been a topical issue. But an update now allows direct reporting of the presence of the police on Google Maps. But not in France. Too bad…

Indeed, we can understand that Google Maps wants to avoid legal violations. This is why Waze remains a more useful ally if you want to pay attention to the presence of the police on the road. If the mobile navigation application has not been able to announce the presence of mobile speed cameras for several years, users have found a few subterfuges to get the word out, talking about “temporary dangers”.

However, Waze can report the presence of the police and the gendarmerie. And this is quite easy to explain. It has been several months since the gendarmerie chose to make its presence visible on the roads on Waze. The idea behind this decision is to encourage drivers to ease off the gas and follow the Highway Code.

So, if you're hesitating between Waze and Google Maps before hitting the road, be aware that Waze allows you to report, to a certain extent, speed cameras on the road.
