Here's the new way to protect your Google account from data leaks. All you need is a phone!

You have always been used to using passwords to access your favorite sites? Google has a much simpler and more secure solution.

< p>Many users continue to use the traditional combination of usernames and passwords to access their user accounts on different websites. Whether it is social networks, e-commerce sites or even news sites, it is now natural to access our data by entering a pseudonym or an email, followed by a more or less secure password.

Unfortunately, this method is increasingly risky. Nowadays, even the most elaborate passwords only take a few minutes to be decrypted and used for dishonest purposes. This is why more and more companies and users, concerned about the protection of their personal data, are starting to use a more recent and modern method.

Google has already introduced Passkeys in 2023 to allow users to no longer have to worry about their logins and passwords. In 2024, the company has now improved greatly this new identification method to make it even easier to use and more secure.

A Passkey is a method that allows you to connect to a its customer areas using, not a username and password as we have mentioned, but a biometric identification solution. This can involve your fingerprint as well as your face.

Many recent smartphones now have a fingerprint solution or facial recognition technology to unlock them. On the iPhone in particular, there is the famous Face ID which allows access to certain applications. These technologies allow your face to be stored in memory and only allow access if you show it. For the most advanced smartphones, a full scan of the face is carried out and prevents a photo from being used to subvert the system.

This is the solution that Google now recommends to secure your personal data and prevent potential leaks, including access to your various online accounts. It will be much more difficult for a hacker to access your data if the latter cannot use your face or fingerprints.

To use Passkeys on your Google accounts, simply go to the page dedicated to the feature from a smartphone and select the security keys you have depending on the brand and model of the device. You can even create your own security key to access your Google accounts. Note that this feature can also be used on a computer or MacBook that has a fingerprint identification solution.
