Here's what you should never say to a telephone canvasser, otherwise you risk being harassed for a long time to come

Cold calling is a scourge for many people. Fortunately, there is a very simple way to stop being solicited.

Who has never been affected by cold calling?? More and more French people complain every day about being victims of these incessant calls. Call centers are now numerous and their employees have only one mission: to contact as many people as possible and get them to sign contracts or commitments. They even have pre-written scripts to be able to call you, call you back and convince you to subscribe to their offers.

Fortunately, there are solutions. Several tools and online services have recently emerged to prevent legitimate companies from contacting you, and there are also lists of numbers that should be avoided at all costs if they try to reach you. Similarly, you have probably read a lot of advice on what to say to a cold caller when you make the mistake of answering one of these calls. But do you know what you should definitely not say ?

If you really want to get rid of pushy or even disrespectful advisors, there are indeed answers and even words to avoid. First of all, it is absolutely necessary to prescribe any form of curiosity towards what the advisor will propose to you. Do not ask any questions because the latter could allow your interlocutor to unfold his text further and not leave you alone. You must also ban the word “yes” during your answers since the advisor could think that you are potentially interested by its offers.

Many people are also very vehement towards advisors who practice telephone canvassing. Keep in mind that these are employees and that they would also like to do something other than contact you by phone to offer you insurance or solar panels. So try to be polite to them.

You might also be tempted to hang up immediately upon hearing the advisor's voice, but be aware that this will only delay the problem since the advisor will try to reach you again shortly.

The best way to get rid of them once and for all is to refuse the advisor's offers outright. Simply answer “no” or “I'm not interested in that” to each of his requests. Better yet, you can sometimes respond that you already have the offer proposed. In this way, the advisor will quickly realize that he can't get anything from you and stop bothering you. The latter may even possibly categorize you as a useless interlocutor to call back.
