This year, in addition to making many concessions to bring iOS into compliance with the Digital Markets Act (like the ability to use App Store competitors in the EU), Apple also made changes that apply worldwide. And among those changes is a relaxation of the rules around streaming video game apps. Essentially, the firm updated the App Store rules to allow streaming game platforms to integrate this experience directly into their apps. The old rules required developers to create a title on the App Store for each game offered in cloud gaming. “Developers can now submit a single application with the possibility of distributing all the games offered in their catalog,” explained the Cupertino company.
Of course, we thought that this relaxation would encourage companies like Microsoft or Nvidia to offer native iOS applications for their streaming gaming platforms Xcloud and GeForce Now. But until now, Microsoft, for example, has not yet announced the arrival of its cloud gaming app on the iPhone. And today, we know why. In short, despite the relaxation of the App Store rules, the Redmond firm is not yet satisfied. The Verge site has spotted a document sent by Microsoft to the Competition and Markets Authority, the trade regulator in the United Kingdom. In this document, the Redmond firm explains: “Microsoft has identified a number of other provisions in Apple’s guidelines that continue to limit its ability to distribute and operate a native iOS Cloud Gaming application.”
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Specifically, Microsoft points to the 30% commission taken by the App Store on player purchases that would make it impossible to monetize a cloud gaming application on iOS, knowing that a paragraph of Apple's regulations specifies that such a platform must offer on iOS all the offers available on other operating systems. It remains to be seen whether Apple could still make concessions, while the App Store rules have already been modified several times this year. Otherwise, it should be noted that Microsoft sent this document to the British regulator as part of an investigation.
