The entire harvest of mirabelle plums in Boyne. 60% a few kilometers away. Hit in April 2024 by a sudden and devastating frost, Aveyron producers and arboriculturists were impatiently awaiting the decision. Meeting last December, the National Committee for Agricultural Risk Management (CNGRA) heard their grievances by recognizing the nature of agricultural disasters for the damage suffered in Aveyron following the 2024 frost.

This recognition concerns losses of funds for damaged property and zoning. It concerns 272 municipalities in the department. Excluded are the municipalities of Cornus, Fondamente, l'Hospitalet du Larzac, La Bastide Pradines, La Cavalerie, La Couvertoirade, Lapanouse de Cernon, Le Clapier, Marnhargues and Latour, Saint-Beaulize, Saint-Jean-et-Saint Paul, Sainte-Eulalie-de-Cernon and Viala-du-Pas-de-Jaux. In all other municipalities, farmers will be able to file a claim for compensation with the Aveyron prefecture.

As a reminder, a frost episode between April 18 and 22, 2024 caused heavy damage to fruit trees (plum, cherry, apricot and peach trees) and vines (wine grapes and table grapes). In South Aveyron in particular, with considerable damage to some producers. Arboriculturists in Boynes, Dorian Lauzun and Nicols Maury of the Gaec des Vergers de l’Aveyron deplored for example a 100% loss for mirabelle plums, or “40 tons of fruit less” they estimated, the equivalent of 75,000 euros definitively lost.
