He is 12 years old and is already a Chief Corporal at SDIS 34… On February 3, Hook, an honorable member of the SDIS 34 dog team, was promoted, with great fanfare, on the occasion of the inauguration of the PPESU in Gignac. Among his feats of arms, this “firefighter” dog, “notably located two people who were underwater. We carried out our biggest mission in the Vésubie valley where, for 15 days, we searched for eight missing people. We also participated in numerous operational searches on structural collapses in Hérault, to ensure that doubts were removed. Our role is, first and foremost, to search for the living”, recalls his master, Warrant Officer Florent Adra.
A well-deserved retirement
The SDIS 34 dog team intervenes “as a priority, in the Department, but also in France and abroad. We search for people in the rubble in the event of structural collapse.” The animal is also useful for finding “lost people, often in conjunction with the police. Or submerged victims because it is able to detect odors that rise to the surface”, explains the Warrant Officer, owner of the quadruped. At almost thirteen years old, Hook is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement, and rank.
