Already well established in the daily lives of the French with its online appointment booking service, Doctolib is now venturing into the field of applied artificial intelligence (AI). at the medical consultation.
The company, which has won over 80% of French people and a quarter of caregivers, will launch a revolutionary digital consultation assistant in October. This new tool, currently in the testing phase with 360 doctors, promises to transform the patient-doctor relationship by automating note-taking and medical record management.
L& #8217;consultation assistant is just the tip of the iceberg. Doctolib plans to go further: it aims to “become a benchmark for AI in Europe”. To achieve this, the company is not skimping on resources: 100 million euros will be invested this year in development new solutions based on AI, and 100 new employees will strengthen the teams of engineers and developers.
This innovation strategy is structured around several axes. In addition to the consultation assistant, Doctolib is working on an intelligent answering machine, already operational in Germany thanks to the acquisition of the start-up Aaron .have. This service, which should be available in France by 2025, allows patients to make an appointment by telephone by conversing with an AI, even capable of detecting the urgency of a situation from the tone of voice.
A “prevention assistant” is also in the works for 2025. It aims to improve the monitoring of vaccinations, screenings and chronic diseases. Doctolib is also developing a tool for codifying medical data to simplify the work of practitioners.
AI to replace doctors ? «& nbsp;Never and I don't want it, declares to Le Figaro Stanislas Niox-Chateau, co-founder of the unicorn. Even in the long term, this will not be possible, because artificial intelligence works on the basis of past data, but new pathologies appear, the context changes”.
According to him, AI is even there to make the lives of caregivers easier. “Today, they collect data from their patients as best they can, then try to prioritize them, he explains. We will simplify and automate these tasks, so that they can have the right data at the right time.”
What do caregivers think? “I think it’s the future” tells us Joachim Benquet, sports physiotherapist specializing in badminton. “Today, an interview with a patient takes a lot of time, but what is important for us is to save time” he explains. He develops:
Applications already save a little time by checking boxes. But the in-depth interview, called anamnesis, still requires active note-taking during the interview with the patient. AI will allow us not to miss anything while actively listening to the patient.
Presented yesterday by Doctolib, the new functionality conquered him. “The AI is capable of detecting the most important elements explained by the patient during the interview, we do not waste time sorting the data after the interview. This gives us more time to actively work with our patients”.
This innovation strategy is part of in a context of strong competition, particularly against American digital giants. Doctolib intends to establish itself as a European champion of digital health, by focusing on transparency and respect for personal data. The unicorn, which has experienced some setbacks on this subject, will be closely monitored.
This new strategic direction for Doctolib comes after a difficult period linked to the Covid-19 crisis. If the company was able to position itself as a public health player during this period, making its teleconsultation software available free of charge and facilitating access to vaccination, this was done at detrimental to its growth. As a result, the unicorn lost two years in its search for profitability.
The company, which plans to reach profitability in 2025, sees in AI a way to make up for this delay and open up new growth prospects. With a turnover of 300 million euros and an international presence (Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands), Doctolib has the necessary resources to carry out this ambitious transformation.< /p>
