Like AI chatbots, image generators have also become extremely popular. Among the best-known models, there is DALL-E 3, which OpenAI has integrated into ChatGPT. But Google also offers an equivalent technology and its image generation model, called Imagen 3. And since this October, the Imagen 3 model has been available for free on Gemini for all users worldwide.
“Your imagination is limitless and we want to put the power of creativity in your hands. We’re also expanding image generation to more countries and languages, so even more people can bring their ideas to life with Gemini. While this model represents a step forward in the quality and accuracy of image generation, we are constantly learning and will continue to improve to provide you with the best possible experience,” reads Google’s announcement of the update.
Image generation with Imagen 3 is now available to all Gemini users around the world.

How to generate an image using Imagen 3 ?
To generate an image for free using Google’s Imagen model is very simple: you just go to Gemini, either on the website or on the mobile app, and then ask the AI to generate the image you want. In the example below, I ask Gemini to generate an image of a giant snail walking in the streets of Paris.

You won’t have any trouble creating images of objects or animals using Gemini’s built-in generator. However, the free version won’t let you create images that include people. When I asked the AI to generate an image of a painter, it replied that the ability to generate images of people will soon be available on Gemini Advanced, which is the paid version of Google’s chatbot.

In any case, the addition of an image generator makes Gemini even more practical, while it already allows you to search for files on Gmail or Google Drive, via the Workspace extension. In addition, Google is preparing to offer an integration of Gemini with the Google calendar, and the Keep and Task applications. These integrations should allow Gemini to offer real benefits to the user in terms of productivity.
- Like OpenAI, Google offers an image generation model
- Called Imagen 3, it is integrated into the free version of the Gemini application
- To generate an image, you simply ask the AI, describing the image you want to obtain
- But for the moment, Imagen 3 does not allow you to create images of people
