I tested the Floor One Stretch S6 from Tineco, the friend of lazy people

On paper, the machine actually has some advantages to put forward. It has a wide washing roller and mechanisms for evaluating the degree of soiling of the floor in order to adapt its cleaning power. it also carries two tanks – one for clean water, the other for dirty water – in order to have maximum efficiency.

Its main originality lies in its ability to tilt 180° in order to flatten itself to the ground . Thus deployed, it only measures 13 cm in height and fits easily under a bed or furniture. This mini feat is made possible by the integration of a hinge specifically designed for the occasion.

Better yet: not only can its built-in sensors determine when it needs a quick wash, but it also washes itself like a grown-up. And with water heated to 70°, please! Of course, a drying cycle, just as automatic, completes the operation.

The device is therefore perfect for a lazy, busy journalist like me. So I adopted it for almost two months to check if it was as impressive as that…

The Stretch S6 comes with a charging station on which it must be placed a few hours before the first use. This gives me time to read the user manual and download the companion application. This offers some interesting possibilities like creating a custom mode or changing the language of voice prompts.

The clean water tank sits on top of the cleaning head. The waste water receptacle is located in the body of the device. Its two-part design separated by a filter separates solid waste from dirty water. The whole thing can be assembled or disassembled very simply thanks to clearly identified latches.

The Stretch S6 is controlled using a few buttons housed in its handle while its status is displayed on the upper face. A light ring provides information on the degree of dirtiness of the cleaned floor: it changes from blue to red depending on the degree of dirtiness of the floor. Finally, a few lights indicate the active usage mode, while a mini-display indicates the battery discharge level.

A little surprise when switching on: a synthetic voice announces the activated cleaning cycle (normal, maxi, automatic, dry suction) while the device literally “starts”. In order to make it more pleasant to use, a pair of mini-guide wheels and a motor allow it to be handled effortlessly. The system works pretty well and I feel more like I'm guiding the device rather than pushing it.

I decide to start with the kitchen and its adjoining veranda, both tiled. In the kitchen, cleaning is faster than with a traditional mop while being more efficient. The cleaning head vacuums and then washes in all the nooks and crannies up to a distance of 15 mm from the wall. Not bad at all… A glance at the light ring tells me that the floor is moderately dirty: so I keep the automatic cleaning mode.

Things get a little more complicated when I arrive under the veranda, much dirtier since it is an obligatory passage when entering the house through the garden. Between the multiple comings and goings of children and Polka, a charming dog covered in hair (and mud), she requires a little more attention.

At least that's what the light ring tells me as it gradually turns red. I then switch to maximum power and the cleaning continues without any problem. A glance at the waste water receptacle confirms that it wasn't a luxury…

Before moving on to the parquet floors of the bedrooms and living room, I decide to take a cleaning break. So I put the Stretch S6 back on its base: charging resumes immediately while a soft voice tells me that a check of the cleanliness of the device is in progress.

The verdict comes a few seconds later: a cleaning cycle is required. The operation, fully automated, still requires manual triggering. It starts with two minutes of cleaning, ends with five minutes of drying and is quite noisy. No matter: the result is there since the device is clean again.

The suction mode without washing is also extremely effective. I still notice some traces of humidity left by the device, ultimately not as dry as I thought. The 180° hinge works wonders and it is actually possible to pass under beds and furniture without any problem. I wouldn't go so far as to say that cleaning becomes a pleasure, but we're not very far from it anymore…

Cleaning five rooms, two of which included floor washing, took only about fifteen minutes in total and used almost 40% of the battery life. The power consumption I see is therefore in line with the 40-minute battery life announced by the manufacturer. So far, so good.

Since I'm a gamer, I'm going to extend the experience to a large interior courtyard (70 m2, covered with stone slabs) although Tineco strongly advises against the Stretch S6 for this. So I charge the battery to full capacity and start the operation. The device detects a maximum level of dirt, starts to hum, but advances without too many problems. Everything goes well until a voice prompt tells me to empty the waste water container. I take the opportunity to fill up with clean water before continuing.

At the end of the experiment, the yard is clean, but the microfiber roller has taken a big hit. The cleaning/drying procedure allows it to be salvaged, but it seems worn. As a precaution, I replace it with a new model, supplied with the device. The filter also looks dirty, but I manage to wash it using a small brush. Here too, I could have opted for a change, Tineco providing a second one with the device.

These two parts are considered by Tineco as consumables that must be renewed regularly. Very well, but how do I get them ? And where can I find the cleaning solution to add to the water before use ? All of this is of course available in the manufacturer's online store, as well as on Amazon and from the brand's usual distributors (Boulanger, Fnac Darty, Electro Depot, Ubaldi, etc.)

Depending on the frequency of use, Tineco recommends changing the cleaning roller and filter every three to six months. They are sold together for 28 euros (or 55 euros in a set of two kits). If you look a little, you can find “compatible” products. 50% cheaper. Are they effective? Tineco claims not and that using them voids the warranty. The cleaning solution is available for 25 euros in a one-liter bottle on the manufacturer's website. I found it for around fifteen euros at Boulanger. “Compatible” products are offered at significantly lower prices: will you take the risk of trying them, even if it means damaging the S6?? It's up to you!

After two months of testing, my experience has been very positive. I use the Stretch S6 every day for between 5 minutes (quick cleaning of the veranda and kitchen) and 25 minutes (major cleaning). Easy to use and clean, it gives me complete satisfaction. As you will have understood, I am won over by this complete, powerful and well-designed cleaner that I can only recommend. On condition, of course, that you agree to invest 600 euros in a cleaning product…
