I tested the Ulys toll badge and its app on the road to the holidays, what is it for ?

Toll badges continue to attract motorists. Not being a seasoned driver, it took me a while to see the point. But after hearing about it from those around me, I ended up taking a closer look at this “miraculous” sesame ”. Save time and comfort… Really ?

By organizing a real road trip of several hundred kilometers for my summer vacation, the Ulys toll badge seemed like the right idea to make this trip more enjoyable. My decision was, let's be clear, also motivated by an attractive offer. With the management fees waived for 12 months, all the barriers were lifted and I had no reason not to try it.

After almost 2500 kilometers traveled, did the Ulys toll badge really save me time and make it more comfortable on the road to my vacation ? Here is my feedback after having scoured the highways of France all summer.

Everything is simple

Ease is definitely the watchword of the Ulys toll badge. While it is full of promises, I admit to having been a little wary. Not that I didn't believe in its effectiveness… But I imagined that everything was exaggerated in order to push people to buy, as is often the case. So I ordered the badge, without having great expectations for Ulys. If it could save me a little time on the road to my vacation, that would have been something.

But the Ulys toll badge sincerely surprised me, in the most positive way possible. To begin with, I received it very quickly. Then, it only took me a few moments to attach it to the windshield of my car. After that, all I had to do was hit the road.

As I left the Paris region during a busy weekend according to that good old Bison Futé, I didn't think that the Ulys pass could achieve the impossible (or almost). And yet… The first toll arrives, and I go through like a letter in the post after having simply slowed down the pace. For my part, it's already a small revolution. I'm not the most comfortable behind the wheel and going through tolls is always a source of stress for me. Maybe you're laughing, but I'm constantly afraid of not being able to get the ticket or of being too far away to insert my credit card and pay. I guess I'm not the only one.

If the Ulys toll badge didn't make me avoid alltraffic jams over these hundreds of kilometers, it allowed me to avoid unnecessary slowdowns near the toll booths. The lines reserved for pass holders are generally not (or only slightly) congested, which allows you to pass in complete serenity, leaving other drivers in your rearview mirror. Even if in my case, there were not as many as I had imagined. Despite everything, the soft “beep” occurring at each toll booth has (almost) become a sweet melody to my ears.

Not content with saving a little time on the road, the Ulys badge allows you to always keep an eye on your consumption. Yes, Ulys has thought of everything and has developed a terribly intuitive application to centralize everything. With the app, you can access all your latest payments and even print out invoices to keep track of your finances. This is ideal for better managing your budget during the holidays, for example.

Contrary to popular belief, let us emphasize that, no, a toll badge (whatever it may be) does not allow you to avoid paying tolls for 2 euros per month. However, it provides a certain comfort and avoids an additional mental burden, and that's already something.

Since it is commitment-free and costs nothing in the months it is not used, it is not only a delight for regular drivers. Personally, I am not sure I will really use it again in the coming months. But given that the management fees are waived for a year and that I only had to pay the shipping costs (around 4 euros), it is still relevant. At least, for those who prioritize their comfort and peace of mind over a few euros. Ultimately, it may be the gain in comfort that outweighs the time savings promised by Ulys.
