Mickaël Gas played one match in Ligue 2 with Nîmes during his career. Midi Libre – LF
Interview with Mickaël Gas (31 years old), coach of Nîmes (8th in group A of Regional 1) between the defeat on the pitch of Atlas Paillade (3-0) and the reception of Grau-du-Roi, Saturday (6 p.m.) at the La Bastide sports complex.
What assessment do you draw from the first part of the season of your team? ?
I would say that our performances are irregular. We alternate between very good and very bad, like last Saturday's match against Atlas Paillade (3-0). This is the lot of reserve teams, we often change team composition. We are quite young, we have scored a lot of goals since the start of the season (27, best attack), we also concede (16, 6th best defense).
After the match, Atlas Paillade coach Geoffrey Dernis said that your team was annoying to play against. Do you think that is the case??
We can say that we are unpredictable. We are capable of winning a match, of scoring goals. Conversely, we are not always able to manage certain strong and weak moments. With time, I hope that we will be able to resolve these problems in the game.
What is the profile of your team?
We have reduced the group, it is interesting to work with young people aged 18-19. Without the approval of a training centre, players cannot sign professionally with the club before the age of 20. With a few players from the professional team in each match and some youngsters, we manage to have a competitive team.
For a coach, working with youngsters must be interesting ?
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000We are always adapting with a reserve team. Sometimes on the eve of a match, we don't know which players we will have at our disposal. Even in training, it is possible that youngsters will move up to the pros. We have to try to react quickly. Before, I was in charge of the U16s and U18s, I was a player for the Nîmes reserve team for a long time and even an assistant coach of this team. I know how it goes. We all learn together.
Personally, you are very attached to Nîmes Olympique…
It is a certainty, I am very attached to this club and I try to perpetuate our values: surpassing oneself, the irreproachable state of mind, the combativeness, playing with the heart, everything that made the good days of Nîmes Olympique.
You have just conceded your second defeat of the season. Is this also part of the learning for your group??
It is important to experience this kind of match, on a difficult pitch in a particular context, the youngsters learn at that moment. Atlas Paillade offers a direct game based on the athletic aspect. We had a hard time existing, it is a problem. My players will soon be judged on their efficiency and the results, we must grow up quickly and understand that being beautiful, sometimes, is useless.
Saturday (6 p.m. at La Bastide), you are hosting another big player in the championship, Le Grau-du-Roi. A new real test awaits you…
It will be a good match, it would be nice to finish the first half with a victory. I know that my team is capable of winning this match. In any case, I'm waiting for a reaction from him.
How do you see the second half of the season ?
I hope to see a positive evolution in terms of results. We have to progress. Gradually, we will also have to start preparing for next season with, why not, a few U18s who will make their appearance. There is still a lot of work to do.
