Journalist and animal welfare activist Hugo Clément is fighting to raise awareness… Wednesday, December 18, 2024, while Paul Watson, an activist committed to the protection of whales, was released after spending five months in detention in Denmark, the journalist was present on the set of Quotidien, on TMC. After having mentioned the courage of the activist, Yann Barthès asked him if a few days before Christmas, he could give advice to those who are going to eat fish, but who have moods.

“We did an investigation for Sur le front, on France 5, which was broadcast on Monday where we try to explain to people how to buy fish without emptying the oceans”, recalled Alexandra Rosenfeld's companion before specifying: “Because it is possible to continue eating fish by eating less and especially by choosing it better. Overall, there are three things to absolutely avoid: salmon, tuna, shrimps !There you have it… These are the three products most consumed by the French…”.

Yann Barthès: “But I like salmon!”

The presenter of the show then cut him off to say: Well then, foie gras!. After laughter embarrassed, Hugo Clément declared: “I do not approve of this message !”, before correcting himself. “No but there are plenty of other things to buy, we can think of line-caught sea bass for example, the sea bass that is caught at the line”, he pointed out before Yann Barthès replied: “Yes, but I like salmon!”.

Hugo Clément then explained: “Salmon, I'm sorry Yann, but it's always a bad idea for a very simple reason. Already more than 98% of the salmon we eat in France comes from farms. These farms are…”, before Yann Barthès cut him up again to declare: But sometimes, it's marked salmon wild…, before adding with a broad smile: “I'm heavy, huh!”.

Hugo Clément answered Yann Barthès questions

Not letting himself be disconcerted, the journalist answered the question, explaining that farmed salmon are carnivorous, that they were fed with fishmeal and that the oceans were plundered for this. According to him, it is better to turn to oysters, or even mussels. In addition, Hugo Clément invited viewers to be careful the fishing method on the labels.

Finally, Yann Barthès asked him why you shouldn't buy shrimp. Once again, the 35-year-old journalist explained that like fish, they came from the other side of the planet and that they were also fed with fishmeal.
