In Lattes, landscaper Sarivière looks after his staff and thinks about the future

The "Macron bonus" is still paid to employees of the landscaping and nursery company created 95 years ago in Lattes.

“I like to say that we are a happy company”, smiles Géraud Vaillat, manager of the Sarivière company which offers, in Lattes, in the Maurin sector, its landscaping and nursery business. A motto which could resemble an electoral program, but which above all wants to point out the ambition to continue to avoid any dispute, whether with customers or with staff. The latter, between 25 and 30 people depending on the season, has benefited since it was created, from the “Macron bonus”. A profit-sharing agreement which allows employees to receive €6,000 this year in two installments, half in July and the other in December. A salary policy “quite unique” according to Géraud Vaillat who, with this fully tax-free purchasing power bonus, has also found a way to keep his employees. When he seizes the system, proposed by the State after the Yellow Vest crisis, the business leader is highlighted on the 8pm news on TF1…

Disturbing prospects

In a highly competitive professional sector, the Lattois company stands out for its history. Sarivière has existed since 1930. A family business, it was managed until 1998 by the five Sarivière brothers and sisters. “I managed a cleaning company and, as a Lattois, I came from time to time to buy plants at Sarivière.” explains Géraud Vaillat. “And then I believe that life is made of opportunities so I seized this one and took over the company, very humbly, I had to learn this trade but given Sarivière's reputation, I immediately decided to keep its name.”

If the year that is ending was synonymous with a good result, the prospects for the construction sector are much more worrying for 2025. “We arrive in real estate programs two years after the first shovel, when the residences are finished. But our job is to plant for the future and to think about global warming and new varieties”,continues the business leader. The schnius molle or false pepper tree, with its drooping branches like a weeping willow and its pink berries, is now favored like the camphor tree or, still and always, the olive tree.

An audit for its carbon footprint

“The question of water consumption is essential today, and as soon as we are in the city, that of creating islands of freshness thanks to trees.” A subject that Gauthier Vaillat, son of the owner and project manager in the company, has in mind. For the 28-year-old, who trained as an architect, adaptation is a daily necessity.

A proactive man, Sarivière launched an audit to calculate his own carbon footprint. Travel, waste treatment, everything is scrutinized. “I think that one day it will be mandatory, for us it is a challenge but also work on the future”, say Vaillat father and son. At almost 95 years old, the Latte company is preparing to meet the challenges of its time.
