In the new Béziers market halls, we enjoy the atmosphere among friends

Spread the love

In the Béziers Market Halls, it's been a rush every day since the opening. J.-P A. – Midi Libre

This Sunday, December 22, a few days before Christmas, the Béziers Market Halls were once again invaded by customers. They share good times there and hope it will last.

You want people? Well, go to the Béziers market halls. But it will be very early. Otherwise, don't even think about parking in the area.
Once you've passed the first step, parking your car, you have to go inside the market. Here again, at the risk of repeating yourself, it's packed. Not a single spot near the café bar, nor near all the stalls that have planned to serve meals or drinks. There's no jostling, but it's definitely packed in, like a sardine can. No one can complain about the cold weather. We're keeping warm…
It's a bit less dense on the food shops side, but, there again, there are queues at almost all the stallholders. And when you ask the latter: “It's okay, it's working ?” The smile says it all and so does the answer. “It's Christmas, let's hope it lasts.”

Yes, the concern that many of them express is: “It shouldn't just be the novelty effect of these renovated halls.” But despite everything, they are satisfied and want to be reassuring. “These halls are quite a concept. We have to be careful, but it's a great place to meet people, there are some great stalls. It has to work. Despite everything, the rents are still a bit high, and the clientele will have to keep coming throughout the year.”

The trio of ambiance-apéro-dîner

Ah, here are some good traders, satisfied and who are rumbling. So it's a good sign, and that they are happy with what they are experiencing at this end-of-year period. “The orders for Christmas and New Year's Eve are there. We have people every day. It's encouraging.”

It remains to be seen whether the customers' feelings are shared on the offer and the atmosphere. It will be hard to find someone more enthusiastic than Jean-Luc Saumade. “I knew the atmosphere of the market halls before the renovation. Honestly, it's still a real meeting place. We have great times there. It was really great before, there's nothing to complain about. And now, we meet up with friends. The Sunday trio “atmosphere-aperitif-dinner” is very present. There are a few worried people who find fault, but they're exaggerating.”

Andrée, enjoying a tagine, assures us: “I'm not from Béziers. My friends decided to eat in the market halls. When I arrived, I thought of the restaurant. Great! And then, no. We ended up there, at the counter, lined up. I sighed, I didn't know it. Finally, this noise, this atmosphere won me over. It's terribly nice. And I'm not saying that because I'm invited. I mean it.”

Satisfied grumbler

Well, in the middle of all that, you had to come across the grumpy guy on duty. A big guy that you look into the eyes while raising your chin and to whom you don't necessarily want to contradict. “Pff, honestly, they couldn't have thought that their thing would work. We're losing space with the space between the halls and the restaurant. You push this partition and we're more comfortable. It's stupid not to have thought of it.” Everything's fine, he's grumbling, but he's happy.

I subscribe to read the rest
