Des parcs à sapins seront mis en place à travers la ville de Nîmes et les communes de l’agglomération. Midi Libre – MiKAEL ANISSET
The “fir tree parks” operation is being renewed in the city of Nîmes and the surrounding area and begins this Thursday, December 26.
We have to face the facts, Christmas is over and it will soon be time to put away the baubles and garlands to put the decorations in the garage. And if you are one of the nearly 6 million French people who buy a natural fir tree each year, the question of the future of this conifer will arise.
In Nîmes and its surrounding area, from this Thursday, December 26th until Sunday, January 26th, 24 municipalities are taking part in the scheme set up by Nîmes Métropole, with the opening of “Christmas tree parks”. 91 collection points accessible 7 days a week and 24 hours a day to drop off the one that accompanied your days.
“With the success of last year's “tree parks” operation, Nîmes Métropole wanted to repeat this operation to make it easier for users to dispose of them after the holiday season. An operation that also meets an environmental and sustainable development objective, by giving a new life to all these trees that will end up either as shredded material for mulch or as compost”, specify Franck Proust, president of Nîmes Métropole, and Bernard Angelras, vice-president responsible for the Environment, collection and waste treatment.
A few instructions must be followed: of course, remove all decorations from the tree, that it is not covered in artificial snow, that it is without logs or feet and without packaging such as a tree bag or other. As a reminder, the illegal dumping of a Christmas tree outside of dedicated points is punishable by a fine of up to €1,500.
Last year, for the first edition of this system, only eleven municipalities had joined this system, with 70 parks established from January 2 to 21. However, nearly 4,800 Christmas trees had already been collected in three weeks. Nîmes represented 70% of the donations, with 3,284 fir trees collected compared to 1,491 conifers for the other ten municipalities.
The municipalities participating in the scheme: Bernis, Bézouce, Caissargues, Caveirac, Clarensac, Fons-outre-Gardon, Gajan, Garons, Générac, La Calmette, Lédenon, Manduel, Marguerittes, Milhaud, Montignargues, Moulézan, Nîmes, Poulx, Redessan, Saint-Bauzély, Saint-Côme-et-Maruéjols, Saint-Gilles, Sainte-Anastasie and Sauzet.
