One of the most famous informers in the history of Quebec, the ex-member of the Hells Angels Stéphane “Godasse” Gagné, was granted full parole last month after serving more than 25 years in prison for the murder of a prison guard and the attempted murder of a other corrections officer.
In addition to these crimes, Stéphane Gagné is best known as the man whose confessions and testimonies led to the conviction of the former leader of the Hells Angels, Maurice Mom Boucher, who died in prison of cancer in July 2022.
Stéphane Gagné, who was subject to significant protective measures inside the walls of prison, had been on day parole since 2023.
According to the decision of the Parole Board of Canada ( CLCC), which reports on the progress made by Gagné, the latter would be well on the path to rehabilitation.
His first steps before the CLCC date back to 2016. In 2018, he was authorized to make a first supervised release from prison.

In light of reports that were drafted by the commissioners, it appears to have made progress. Moreover, this is what allowed him to move forward in the step-by-step process of conditional releases, commented Dave Blackburn, former commissioner at the CLCC, on the airwaves of ICI RDI.
Gagné lives today under another identity. Even the name of the prison where he was incarcerated cannot be publicly disclosed.
Known under the nickname Godasse in the Hells Angels biker group, Stéphane Gagné was arrested on December 5, 1997, at the same time as several other bikers, including Steve Boies, to whom Gagné had asked for help in making the disappearances of evidence after the murder of a prison guard.
Seeing that Boies had decided to sit down at the table in exchange of the status of informer, Stéphane Gagné, feeling the hot soup, had chosen to do the same. He had in fact sworn to Maurice Boucher that he had never spoken to anyone about this murder, which was not the case.
The Hells Angels and the Rock Machine fought a bloody war in Quebec from 1994 to 2002 .
After striking a deal with the prosecution, Gagné pleaded guilty to one charge for the murder of prison guard Diane Lavigne, as well as the attempted murder of Robert Corriveau, who accompanied prison guard Pierre Rondeau, who was shot in a prison van a few months after Ms. Lavigne.
In exchange for the protection of the prison authorities, he had to serve a sentence to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
The testimony and confessions of Godasse Gagné were the turning point that the police had been waiting for years to get their hands on at the collar of Maurice Mom Boucher and possibly put an end to the bloody war between the Hells Angels and the Rock Machine from 1994 to 2002, in Quebec.
This war left 150 dead and 9 missing, not to mention 181 attempted murders and 84 arsons.
