Every year, the ritual is more or less the same: Apple takes advantage of the back-to-school season (most often in September, but sometimes also October) to unveil its new generation of iPhone. Four models are always offered, with the same screen sizes as on the iPhone 14 generation (6.1″ and 6.7″), in “standard” and “Pro” variants. :
The changes, which are rather major, indicate that this new generation is launching a new “super cycle”. Apple has indeed made a habit of launching a more ambitious smartphone every other year, and it seems that this iteration has the arguments to convince many buyers to upgrade to the latest generation.
In France, iPhones are selling rather well. Since 2020, they have been number 2 in sales behind Samsung. A share that is growing in trend – suggesting that Apple is ultimately not so far from snatching the crown from its historic competitor, at least in France.

Apple held its famous keynote on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 7 p.m. 00 (Paris). The new models will be released on Friday, September 22, 2023.
The exact price in euros of the iPhone 15 was expected to be significantly higher this year. Since the presentation of the first iPhones, every year, many sources have been waving the flag of a significant price increase – which, moreover, has not always happened in the proportions announced. And finally, the least we can say is that Apple has not passed on its cost increases to customers as many sources announced. Judge for yourself:

Because that's forgetting that Apple is no longer just a hardware company – the firm is increasingly counting on its services, which make up a growing share of its iPhone revenue. A strategy that is as cautious as it is clever, which shows that the firm understands that the smartphone market is now very mature, and that unit sales alone may at some point no longer be enough.

Apple continues to maintain a clear distinction between the classic iPhones and the Pro models. The most expensive models are the only ones to be entitled to the most recent screens, and the latest A17 chip. With the key to an increase in RAM which would go to 8 GB against 6 GB on the iPhone 14 Pro.
The arrival of the USB type C port is generalized on all models confirming the echoes coming from the assembly lines for several months. Apple has integrated a new UWB chip on all four models (for detecting AirTags, as well as improving localization inside buildings).
In addition, the SIM drawer is disappearing in France from this generation, as Apple began to do in the United States on the iPhone 14. An eSIM will therefore now be mandatory to use the iPhone.
Apple has also improved the repairability of these models. An internal redesign makes it easier to open the device for repairs. Changing the rear glass will be much easier and therefore much less expensive, complex and risky than it is currently.
Finally, from screens to LiDAR sensors, Apple has opted for significantly less energy-intensive components on all models, which likely promises significant progress on the autonomy side.

On the surface, all four iPhone 15s have an iPhone 14 Pro look. What we mean is that The notch is definitely disappearing in favor of the new screens with Dynamic Island. But the technology of these screens remains different, with slightly less premium screens on the base models, and thinner borders on the Pro models.

Apple has changed the shape of the chassis a bit to give its corners a slightly more open angle. A titanium chassis (in a brushed finish rather than a glossy one) is now offered on the Pro variants, as are new colors. The arrival of brushed titanium (or rather an alloy that is easier to work with) seems like an improvement considering the iPhone 14 Pro's surgical steel frame is susceptible to scratches and fingerprints.

Titanium, however, tends to oxidize, which can paradoxically imply increased visibility of scratches if the firm does not add an adequate protective coating that is sufficiently strong and thick. Beyond that, there is also talk of a redesign of the Mute button that can act as a Action button like on the Apple Watch Ultra.

The photo part evolves relatively on two of the three least expensive models. One exception all the same: that of the &# 8217;iPhone 15 Pro Max that swaps the 3x telephoto sensor for a periscope sensor allowing lossless optical zoom up to 6x.
As you can see in the illustration, the whole trick is to build the sensor into the edge of the smartphone, with a prism to redirect the light at 90°. All this takes up space internally, which explains why this technology, offered for a few years on a handful of very premium Android smartphones (notably from Samsung), is slow to become widespread.
The telephoto lens is however one of the points that is progressing the most laboriously on iPhones. The change is therefore a priori excellent news for photo enthusiasts.
This year all four iPhone 15 models offer a USB type C port instead of the Lightning port owner. In addition to being able to connect the smartphone to many cables that you probably already have at home, this change promises improved fast charging and especially increased transfer speeds.
Until now, Apple was content to upgrade the USB 2.0 standard to 480 Mb/s (including on the iPhone 14 Pro Max!). The cable itself has become quite anecdotal for file transfers since everything most often goes through the cloud. But changing the connector's capabilities also promises easier file management, especially video, for those who use their iPhone to capture high-quality (very heavy) videos.
However, a new controller on the A17 Pro chip of the Pro models allows transfer standards such as USB 3 (up to 10 Gb/s). The change of connector is therefore rather accompanied by a benefit for users. It also becomes possible to charge your accessories with your iPhone by connecting the two with a USB type C cable.
