According to one of Apple's top experts, it's best to wait until September 2025 before buying your next iPhone. The iPhone 16 has been designed to stabilize sales, without really changing much…
Apple's Keynote, held this Monday, September 9, had not yet begun and almost everything was already known about the iPhone 16. Mark Gurman, a renowned journalist specializing in Apple for Bloomberg, had even already delivered his analysis of the brand's next flagship, expected this fall. With his internal sources and in-depth knowledge of the Cupertino company, he announced that this new model is not a revolutionary smartphone.
As every year, rumors and expectations have been high around this next generation of iPhone. Bigger screen, new colors, dedicated button the camera, more powerful A18 chip, enhanced artificial intelligence… The supposed new features of the iPhone 16, presented with great fanfare yesterday evening, are already making fans of the Apple brand salivate.

However, Mark Gurman tempers this enthusiasm. According to him, while the iPhone 16 certainly brings its share of improvements, it is not a major revolution compared to the iPhone 15 released last year. Apple would rather bet on a “transitional iPhone” this year, aiming to stabilize its sales in the next 12 months before the arrival of more innovative models in 2025. He would even advise waiting until September 2025 and a new Keynote to launch.
A more revamped version of the iPhone in 2025
The Bloomberg reporter elaborates on his reasoning: “If you have an older iPhone, these are nice upgrades, but probably not essential. I don't expect the new models to be a gold rush for Apple. And if the latest financial forecasts are any indication, the company doesn't expect it either. It has declined to give an iPhone growth forecast for the current quarter. If Apple expected a significant increase, we would probably have had an indication.”
If you own an iPhone 14 or iPhone 15, which are already excellent devices, so the best thing to do is to wait until next September and the iPhone 17. It is on this model that Apple should introduce breakthrough innovations: an all-screen design without any borders, a periscope zoom, more advanced satellite connectivity, a chip with revolutionary architecture… And above all an “Air” version ultra-thin, inspired by the revolution introduced by the MacBook Air in the world of portable computers a few years ago. In short, a real leap forward.”
The expert qualifies his remarks by specifying that the iPhone 16 remains a very good choice for those who have an older model (iPhone 13 or earlier). But for owners of newer iPhones, waiting another year seems like the smartest strategy, both technically and economically.
