This is another victory against piracy. The Paris judicial court, hearing a complaint from Canal+, ordered on October 10th that Google and Bing remove around forty portals illegally broadcasting live Champions League matches, a competition for which the French group holds the rights.
A major offensive against illegal streaming
The decision also requires Bouygues Telecom, SFR, SFR Fibre, Free and Free Mobile as well as many operators operating overseas to block these platforms. Canal+ thus estimates that there are ” many websites accessible from France broadcast almost systematically, free of charge, in streaming and live, among other things, matches from multiple competitions, particularly football “.

Are IPTVs thriving because of high prices ?
It should be noted that the fight against illegal IPTV is in full swing in France. Arcom and its half-dozen dedicated agents are making considerable efforts to block these services. They are also using automated technologies to overcome them. However, the fight is far from won, especially since subscription prices, considered too high by customers, tend to encourage them to turn to illegal services.
The head of this institution, Roch-Olivier Maistre, himself estimated during a Senate hearing that prices could be a problem:
But we can see it clearly. When there is an offer at a balanced and reasonable price for the consumer, piracy, I was going to say, disappears. In terms of music, it is very clear. Piracy has melted like snow in the sun because we can access a quasi-universal offer for a reasonable price. When we are on exorbitant prices, it is sure that we feed piracy.
As a reminder, the use of pirate IPTV is punishable by Article 321-1 of the Penal Code. The latter characterizes it as receiving stolen goods. In concrete terms, if you use these illegal services, you risk three years in prison and a maximum fine of 375,000 euros. Fortunately, this rule is not applied, because it is not adapted to the massive use of these platforms. Do you think that these repeated attacks on illegal sites are the solution ?
