To combat illegal IPTV, which is enjoying increasing success all over the world, rights holders are reprimanding the managers of these pirate networks. They also no longer hesitate to threaten or impose fines on Internet users, as has already been seen among our European neighbors. But Spanish users have received a letter that was unexpected to say the least from La Liga, Explanations.

A fine, but not only that…

It has been several months now that the leaders of Spanish football have been assuming this strategy of sending letters including fines to suspects. TorrentFreak, always very well informed on this subject, mentions a letter which offers a payment of 261.65 euros.

This letter therefore attacks an individual who ” watched a pirate IPTV stream “, while the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia had promised that ordinary viewers would not be targeted, our colleagues report. How is this possible ?

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

La Liga believes that the recipient used software called Ace Stream to watch football matches. In short, rather than streaming content directly from an illegal IPTV server, this device uses peer-to-peer transfers such as BitTorrent to share content with other users.

Internet users would therefore be part of a distribution network at the very moment they watch the match. La Liga therefore considers that they are not simple spectators of pirated streams, but providers of pirated content.

How to react?

When faced with such a letter, Internet users have reason to panic. Is it better to pay the requested amount or think twice? Quoted by our colleagues, Javier Prenafeta, lawyer at 451.legal, comments:

In these cases, La Liga has obtained the data of users behind the IP addresses under the pretext that they are not simple consumers in good faith without profit, because when they access the content, they also share it, which implies an advantage.

He recommends that Internet users think about the implications of their signature on La Liga's statement because it amounts to “to acknowledge that they provide access to illegal content, which could be punishable under the criminal code. The most advisable thing is to consult a lawyer. ».

In any case, and beyond the Spanish case, we can see that the authorities and rights holders are increasingly mobilized and tense about the repression of these pirate IPTVs which have become extremely popular.
