Multiplication of streaming platforms, fragmentation of the broadcast offer for sports matches… While fans of series and sports do not always have the means to pay, piracy is becoming tempting. For a few euros per month, certain IPTV services offer access to thousands of television channels and other original content. However, you would be wrong to succumb to temptation if we are to believe this former British hacker.

Underestimated dangers

Now repentant, Jenny Radcliffe recently participated in an operation aimed at raising public awareness of the dangers of piracy. Among the organizations involved in this initiative, we find the broadcaster Sky, as well as the Premier League. Suffice it to say, organizations that are very angry against piracy.

And precisely, the expert does not mince her words against these platforms. Quoted by Ladbible, she explains as follows:

The perception that illegal streaming is a victimless crime is completely inaccurate. The sites that host these services are full of malicious links, backdoors, and tricks to access people's digital and financial information, providing professional criminals with an open invitation to steal from anyone who engages in these activities.

And Jenny Radcliffe added: Whether it's multiple credit card charges, installing malware on devices, accessing accounts banking or theft of personal information such as emails, messages, contacts, photographs, documents and browsing history, illegal streaming makes you a prime target for professional fraudsters. ;#8221;

Internet users being pursued

Even worse, like these activities are illegal, victims have great difficulty recovering lost money. And for good reason, they can be the subject of accusations for having used these offers.

In recent months, we have also been able to see that the vice is cracks down on fraudsters. Following the dismantling of an IPTV in Greece, we learned that 43 customers were being prosecuted for illegal viewing of these subscription services.

In France, the use of illegal IPTV is punishable by 3 years of imprisonment and a fine of 300,000 euros. However, there is of course no question of such sanctions at the moment, and the authorities prefer to concentrate on the organizations which offer these platforms.

What we must remember:

  • IPTVs are more and more tempting for Internet users
  • These offers, however, expose customers to serious dangers
  • Users are increasingly being prosecuted by the courts
