Iran warned on Thursday that it would respond “brutally” to an Israeli attack on Iranian military installations on Saturday, saying Israel would “regret” it, local media reported.

“The recent action of the Zionist regime, which attacked parts of our country, was a desperate act, and the Islamic Republic of Iran will respond in a brutal manner that will make Israel regret,” said Mohammad Mohammadi Golpayegani, a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to the Tasnim news agency.

He praised the performance of Iran's air defenses for “preventing the entry of the Zionist regime's warplanes into the territory” and said the damage caused by the strikes was “minimal.”

Mohammad Golpayegani is a senior cleric, as the head of Ayatollah Khamenei's office, who has the final say on all state affairs.

The October 26, the Israeli army admitted for the first time publicly to having attacked military targets on Iranian territory, in an operation presented as retaliation for Iranian missile attacks on Israel on October 1.

Israel said its strikes targeted missile manufacturing facilities, while Tehran downplayed their range.

In Iran, the army announced the death of four soldiers and specified that only “radar systems” had been damaged in this attack, which had been judged “weak” by the local press. Local media also reported that a civilian was killed.

Also on Thursday, General Hossein Salami, the head of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Islamic Republic's ideological army, warned that an “unimaginable” response would be reserved for Israel.

“Israel has reached the stage of collapse and now it acts blindly, without respecting any rules, and commits all crimes,” he added, according to Tasnim.

Since the October 26 attacks, Israel has warned Iran against retaliating, while Tehran, saying it does not seek war, has promised to respond.
