Iron and wood find their smile again in the hands of Philippe Riboulet

Spread the love

In his workshop, located at 99 avenue Foch, in Béziers, Philippe Riboulet is a craftsman with rare talents today: he renovates or creates objects in metal and wood, unique, custom-made and durable pieces.

A former second-hand dealer, he was often led, out of necessity, to renovate old pieces, wooden chairs in particular. The evolution of the market and a wonderful encounter led him to turn to industrial furniture and metalwork. First established on avenue Gambetta, Philippe Riboulet found the premises “of (s) dreams”, on avenue Foch: a former industrial butcher's shop from the time when the Gare du Nord was in operation. The premises are large, he is immediately seduced.

He transforms one of the cold rooms into a room for painting, and the other into a workshop for cutting wood. A homemade air, particle and dust extractor makes the premises healthy. His premises will be called L’Atelier de Philippe.

A job, a passion

Philippe Riboulet can now indulge in his passion without any restrictions. “I support clients from the start of their project, I help them refine it. It can be doors, pergolas, renovation of glass roofs, mirrors and various pieces of furniture. What I prefer is creating furniture, transforming machine tools into functional furniture, adapted to the needs of clients. I like to combine iron and wood to create durable, eco-responsible, easy-to-maintain furniture.”

Philippe's “secret garden” is hosting internships for young people from the Therapeutic, Educational and Pedagogical Institute (ITEP) of Mont-Lozère in Béziers. He introduces them to the world of work and the different professions in his company (ironwork and carpentry, but also electricity and mechanics).

In this context, he has hosted Yannis one day a week for the past two years. With his help, Philippe Riboulet is making a soapbox, a vehicle without an engine to participate in the national soapbox championship that takes place every year at Col du Goulet, in Bleymard in Mont Lozère.

“Seeing Yannis' eyes sparkle with happiness is my greatest reward.”
