  • The Israeli army assured Tuesday evening that its fighters had “eliminated” by striking Beirut the commander of the pro-Iranian Shiite militia Hezbollah, which it holds responsible for the deaths of children on the annexed Syrian Golan Heights.

“Israeli Air Force fighter jets have eliminated the top military leader of the Hezbollah terrorist organization and the head of its strategic unit, Fouad Shokr, in the Beirut area,” the army said in a statement.

“Fouad Shokr was the commander responsible for the Majdal Shams massacre, in which 12 children were killed after Hezbollah fired an Iranian Falaq-1 rocket directly at a soccer field in northern Israel on Saturday night,” army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a separate video statement.
