Israel is to release 200 Palestinians held in its prisons on Saturday in exchange for four female soldiers taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, 2023, as part of the truce agreement, Palestinian sources told AFP .

200 Palestinians released

This list of prisoners, some of whom will be returned to Gaza and others to the occupied West Bank, includes 120 sentenced to life imprisonment, among whom 70 must be exiled outside the Palestinian Territories, specified one of these two sources on condition of anonymity, given the sensitivity of the subject.

Four Israeli hostages

Four Hamas hostages, female soldiers in the Israeli army whose identity the Palestinian movement revealed on Friday, will be released on Saturday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners currently held in Israel. This is the second such exchange under the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel for the Gaza Strip that came into effect on January 19.

Three Israeli women were released last Sunday after more than 15 months of captivity in exchange for 90 Palestinian detainees. Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy and Liri Albag will be released on Saturday, Hamas said on Friday. Under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, Israel has committed to releasing 50 Palestinian detainees for each female soldier released. This would bring the number of detainees potentially eligible for release on Saturday to 200.

Hamas would release a total of 33 hostages during this first phase. According to Israeli authorities, 94 hostages are still being held in the Gaza Strip. The fate of the remaining hostages will be negotiated as part of a second phase, which also includes the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip.
