IN BRIEF

  • In early January, a devastating fire hit Los Angeles, destroying the homes of celebrities including Mel Gibson, Paris Hilton, and Patrick Bruel.
  • Patrick Bruel expressed his sadness on Instagram, highlighting the emotional and material loss of his home at Pacific Palisades.
  • Here are the heartbreaking testimonies of the victims and the impact of this fire on the Los Angeles community.

The flames ravaged everything… The fire began to break out in early January in Los Angeles. And then, constantly rekindling itself, it caused extensive damage. A large part of the chic residential neighborhoods was burned. Among the homes affected were those of many stars. Mel Gibson, Billy Crystal, Paris Hilton, Laeticia Hallyday. They lost (almost) everything. “There is nothing left, Only ashes where our laughter, our memories, our history lived” Johnny's widow, devastated, lamented on Instagram.

Patrick Bruel is also one of the victims of this terrible fire. A few days after the tragedy, the artist spoke on Instagram: “The only insurance we can't subscribe to is that of emotion, memories, objects, perfumes… And the silences that surrounded this house that is going up in smoke. It had been so important to us for 8 years… Oscar was 13 years old in Léon 11 when we arrived… It's very hard to see roots disappear that we have had so much trouble building. It was a beautiful anchor, another refuge. Tonight I'm obviously thinking of the victims, of my friends, to my neighbors, and to all those who have lost everything in this disaster as in so many others in recent years. God bless our firefighters everywhere and always”, he wrote.

Patrick Bruel: “ÇIt looks apocalyptic”

On January 15, two weeks after the fire that ravaged Pacific Palisades began, Patrick Bruel answered questions from Variety. He gave his impression of the appearance of the disaster: “Çit looks apocalyptic. It feels like a bomb has devastated everything”, he said.

Still stunned by what happened, he delivered : “It's a small, beautiful village, a place where we felt extremely comfortable. It's hard for me to talk about it in the past tense. I was there five days ago. It's very overwhelming.”

&What Patrick Bruel's house looked like in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles ?

As Variety recalled, Patrick Bruel bought his home in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles eight years ago, after his two sons, Leon, 21, and Oscar, 19, moved in with their mother, the famous novelist and filmmaker Amanda Sthers. It was at the time his friend Johnny Hallyday who had encouraged him to invest in this neighborhood.

In the interview, the actor of Who Has the Right ? also wanted to set the things straight. Contrary to popular belief, his house “was a small house, not a big one like those described in the media”.
