Announced several years ago, the TGV-M was unveiled this Monday, April 29 in Belfort by Alstom, its manufacturer. The SNCF is very proud of its new fifth generation high-speed train. The opportunity for us to come back in more detail on this new model.

A sustainable train

In the 2020s, ecological issues need to be taken seriously more than ever. the CEO of SNCF-Voyageurs, Alain Krakovitch, therefore announces on the social network #8217;it will last more than 50 years, a TGV born to last».

According to Le Figaro, the latter will consume less energy than existing TGVs by relying on its new engine which will enable eco-driving . SNCF therefore estimates that this model will have the lowest carbon footprint on the market and will reduce its CO2 emissions by 32% during each journey. Finally, note that its design was made using recyclable manufacturing materials.

An innovative design

Always cited by the French daily, the manager believes that the design of the TGV-M boasts “a finesse of line specific to Japanese design that the French love so much, but which is indeed Made in France in realization». The latter will be colored with a Frenchberry touch which fits with the aesthetic of the public railway company. Its trains will be painted white, an aesthetic choice, but also ecological in an attempt to preserve the freshness of the train, explains Alain Krakovitch.

The TGV-M will (perhaps) be) lower prices

In their report, our colleagues from Huff Post also cite the CEO of SNCF-Voyageurs who announces that this new train will be able to accommodate up to 720 passengers – against 560 currently – and “ when we have the 115 trains, that will allow more trains to run, with more passengers and therefore with lower prices ”. We just want to believe it.

He won't be faster than his rivals

As we explained to you in 2021, this model is a little more streamlined than the TGV Duplex, its predecessor. But this will not be enough to compete with other high-speed trains operating around the world. If France still maintains its world speed record with the 574.8 km/h of the East European LGV reached in 2007, the commercial speed of the Japanese Shinkansen SCMaglev will in fact count on 505 km/h shortly thanks to a movement on an air cushion, we announced then.
