Coming from the Accor Arena in Paris-Bercy, it was walked on by Simone Biles, triple gold medalist at the Paris Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games left a little souvenir for the people of Marvejols. A floor stamped Paris 2024 now sits in the municipal gymnasium of Marvejols.

This is one of eighteen floors made exclusively for this summer's artistic and rhythmic gymnastics events. Installed at the Accor Arena in Paris-Bercy, it was used for warm-up sessions before the competition.

“An extraordinary opportunity”

We had to change the floor. It was included in the budget. We were able to discuss it with the national president of Ufolep, during a competition. And that's when he explained to us that the Olympic flooring was going to be put up for sale. For us, it was an extraordinary opportunity!“, relates Mayor Patricia Brémond. The municipality is positioning itself very quickly so as not to miss this opportunity.

One of the platforms was therefore allocated to him, for the sum of €62,500, compared to the €69,000 which had been budgeted. “In addition, they are obviously high-quality floors, with a very good bounce!“, she rejoices.

“It's an honor”

Schoolchildren and members of Gymnastique sportive marvejolaise in particular will therefore be able to follow in the footsteps of Simone Biles, who won three gold medals at Paris 2024. “After all, it was the Olympic athletes who trained on them! For these young people, knowing that they are training on a floor that has been used by champions is a very strong symbol“, confides the mayor.

It has a certain prestige, adds the president of Gymnastique sportive marvejolaise, Florence Piffari. It is an honor to tread this floor after great champions.” As for the quality of the equipment, it was quickly appreciated: “When the gymnasts started to perform on it, they saw the difference: there is another dynamism!

This equipment will undoubtedly be appreciated during the regional competitions that the club hosts at the gymnasium, and which bring together up to 800 participants.

This acquisition is part of the Paris 2024 momentum and the policy implemented by the City, which was awarded the Active and Sporty City label in 2024.
