It’s done: the Flamanville EPR, the most powerful nuclear reactor in France, is finally connected to the electricity grid

The nuclear reactor was connected to the French electricity grid and began producing its first electrons this Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:48 a.m. Twelve years behind the initial schedule.

Finally. The EPR, France's most powerful nuclear reactor, was connected to the national electricity grid late Saturday morning, after seventeen years of construction and twelve years behind schedule, the EDF group announced.

“On Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:48 a.m., the Flamanville EPR was connected to the French electricity grid and began producing its first electrons. This is a historic event for the entire French nuclear industry. The last time a reactor was started up in France was Civaux 2, 25 years ago”, announced EDF CEO Luc Rémont on his LinkedIn account.
