A novel à suspense…In his latest book, Prime Time, Maxime Chattam recounts the live hostage-taking of the 8pm news anchor. Friday, December 13, 2024, on the set of Télématin, on France 2, he recounted : “The hostage-taker enters the set with his mask on, puts his gun to the presenter's temple and says to the camera: “If you cut the live broadcast, I'll kill him”. He asks himself at one point, for the channel, what do we do ? Do we assume to keep on air a guy who can use violence ?”.

After Having specified that the hostage-taker was masked and that his voice was distorted, the novelist added: “The question is: who is it ? Why is he there ? What are the demands ? For a TV channel, what do we do ? Knowing potentially of course that it can be an incredible audience”.

Maxime Chattam: “I didn't want people to judge her”

A bit curious, Damien Thévenot asked him: “How did the idea come to you ? Because it's evil Maxime and we say Maxime he is married to Faustine Bollaert so TV is what he knows quite a bit or not necessarily ?”. With a smile on his lips, Maxime Chattam replied: “Not necessarily no! Besides, it’s the opposite!”.

In all transparency, he explained : “For a very long time, I didn't want to write about TV for fear that people might say: “She's the one expressing herself through him”. I didn't want people to judge her. However, the world of TV for a novelist who writes thrillers is a little too tempting, because the arena is great! It took me a very long time before I free from this idea and to be able to go there quite simply! Especially since this is the news, this is information, this is not magazines. I said to myself: ‘There is still a distance, people will make the distinction’”.

Maxime Chattam: “He wouldn't exist if she wasn't in my life”

November 5, 2024, in the columns of Télé-Loisirs, it was then that his book was dedicated to his wife whom he had indicated : “She taught me to no longer live only through my books and that, that was my big problem of life. I spent more than forty years living through fiction, what I write to protect myself from something part, because in my books, I have control of my emotions. And Faustine who is a woman of emotions precisely, who is anchored in the dream ;eacute;el and who is the complete opposite of me, little by little, she taught me to anchor myself more in reality, to accept not having control the, à feel”.

Émoved, Maxime Chattam had added : “This book would not exist if she was not in my life, that's for sure, and beyond that, I wouldn't be the man I am today at 48 if she wasn't in my life. She made me better, I am aware of it, and it is the least thing to say it”.
