Alors que le département de l’Hérault traverse une crise budgétaire majeure, il accueillait au domaine de Bayssan les vœux de la filière BTP.

Reassuring the representatives of a sector that is more than ever in the fog. This is what the elected officials who took turns at the podium applied themselves to during the traditional wishes for public works in Hérault-Béziers. The event was held at the Bayssan estate, south of Béziers, this Friday, January 31. Quite symbolic when you consider the uncertainty surrounding the future of this cultural space, owned by a Department that is going through a major financial crisis.

Record investments in Béziers

It was Philippe Vidal, vice-president of the Departmental Council, who spoke first. He was keen to defend his president, Kléber Mesquida, who was the subject of several attacks concerning the choice of future budgetary orientations of the community. He notably recalled that the latter would remain, he hopes, the main contracting authority for the year 2025. While also calling on urban areas and town councils to “stick together” and to compensate for the drop in investment on the part of the Department.

Robert Ménard, in his capacity as mayor of Béziers and president of the Béziers-Méditerranée urban area, announced a record investment in public works of €130 million.“This is more than we have ever invested”, he declared while denouncing in a more political register, “those whose party did not vote for the budget”. A direct reference to the Socialist Party, to which Kléber Mesquida belongs, which he added with a call for more freedom for local elected officials.
