“It’s our guiding thread”: the future of the joint hospital of South Aveyron is invited to the wishes

Le centre hospitalier de Millau partageait ses vœux à l’ensemble du personnel ce jeudi 16 janvier en présence des différents acteurs politiques

Far from the demonstrations, speeches and other banquets of the struggle organized for many months “for the defense of the care offer of the hospital of Saint-Affrique”, the ceremony of the wishes of his big brother Millavois ended with a rather unexpected happy ending. Joyful to paraphrase the listeners of the day, the great majority of hospital workers.

“Without them, there would be no hospital” previously asked the director Benoît Durand, very grateful for the work accomplished synonymous with a constant increase in hospital activity. A 4% increase which is not, however, reflected in the establishment's balance sheet.

Unfortunately, I can't find the result in my financial accounts. This is something that deeply annoys me, and on which I am currently 100% focused, the person concerned pleaded. Of all the efforts you are making, we need to translate them today. Because these results are our future, they are our investment, they are what will allow us to work well tomorrow.”

“The common hospital, our Ariadne's thread”

Far from achieving consensus among some caregivers and users, the future of the common hospital has not not been forgotten, quite the contrary.“The common hospital, is our Ariadne's thread, the director recalled. In 2024, we continued to build, with working groups that were involved in the conceptualization of the future joint hospital that is currently being completed.” Benoît Durand recalled that before the laying of the first stone at the end of 2025, “a jury will meet in February to validate the plans” of the future hospital.

An enthusiasm confirmed by the chairwoman of the hospital's supervisory board who came to add a new positive note. “We have two objectives together, recalled Emmanuelle Gazel. The first is the construction of our joint hospital in South Aveyron, the second: maintaining a quality healthcare offering for South Aveyron. However, if the situation is not always idyllic, particularly for building this hospital which has been slipping for almost 30 years, we can be pleased, in this context, that the envelope dedicated to its construction is now protected.” Both at the national and regional levels.

Committed to the tune of €30 million for the development of the road network of the facility, the President of the Department confirms: “with everyone's contribution, we will do everything possible to ensure the success of this hospital project which is now essential. We need to stick together.”

“Work hard together”

“What I remember is your commitment to the general interestl, finally praised the sub-prefect Véronique Martin-Saint-Léon. Which means that I remain extremely positive and not so worried, despite the difficulties and the many challenges to be met.” And to conclude, proactively: “The collective will allow us to achieve what we all believe in, that is to say the capacity of the territory to offer citizens a quality health offer within relatively reasonable time frames… Even if we will have to work together hard to get there.”

“We have always been excluded from decision-making bodies”

“The tone of our intervention will be somewhat different today”. Speaking at the end of the speech by the president of the hospital, the staff representatives were keen to repair the affront. That of never having been invited to sit on decision-making bodies. In particular within the steering committee (copil) of the South Aveyron joint hospital.

“Neither the user representatives nor the staff representatives were invited to the development of our future joint hospital. Despite our repeated requests, no one is able to to tell us who decides, or what is decided” deplored the CGT health secretary of the hospital, Corine Mora.

A plea that hit the mark, the members of the steering committee agreeing to invite representatives of users and staff to the next meeting. An episode that confirms, at least in form, the desire to work from now on “hand in hand” in favor of the common hospital.
