Jacques Pawawi. “Son” club compte une équipe seniors filles et une garçons, des U15 et U14 et du “baby foot”, à partir de 3 ans.
At the head of the Stade Lunaret Montpellier Nord 1913 football club, he and the members work to help everyone integrate. We tell you about it!
The festive atmosphere can be felt as soon as you enter the Beaux-Arts gymnasium, at the end of December. Here, the Stade Lunaret Montpellier Nord 1913 club celebrates Christmas for the 288 children who are members. Volunteers and parents prepare the party under the watchful eye and precise orchestration of Jacques Pawawi, its president. “All the children will have a gift and a great snack”, Jacques enthuses.

Why this collective involvement marked by the joy of meeting up again ? The parents explain: “It's a neighborhood club that accepts everyone, without selection, without conditions. The atmosphere is family and warm. The Wednesday training sessions are conducted by quality people, very educational”, indicates Jean-François. Fanny adds: “They teach our children to be patient and orderly.” Astrée adds: “We have found a very good state of mind. It is a club that stands out. The others select players from the age of 7, upon registration. In addition, the club is mixed socially. What motivates and brings us together is the common point: football.” .
The club therefore defends values that unite: a passion for football, pleasure before competition, no selection. But what also characterizes this amateur club is the personality of Jacques Pawawi who marks with his demands the spirit of this association created in 1913 by Father Prévost (creator of the eponymous enclosure with an orphanage, a school, a church and the stadium).
A former player who became president in 2009, Jacques wants to “give everyone a chance up to the age of 10 so that they do not end their career without a project”. His ambition ? “That parents help and that each kid lives his dream”.
Giving a chance, he knows what he's talking about. Arriving from New Caledonia for his military service, he comes from “the Wedrumel tribe (*). I couldn't read or write. My passion for football carried me. I lead a bit like a clan leader, a team leader. Everyone has their role. I try to fade into the background. Without them, the club wouldn't exist!”. That's for sure. No club without a management team, and an open-minded spirit inspired by Jacques' life.
(*) In 2019, the tribe had 341 inhabitants. And 514 people declare belonging to the tribe without residing there (Isee of New Caledonia).
