10 years already. On January 7, France paid tribute to the 12 victims murdered by Islamist militants in the offices of Charlie Hebdo, near the Place de la Bastille, in Paris. Five cartoonists, three journalists, two police officers, a cleaning worker and a visitor lost their lives in this terrible attack claimed by by the Al-Qaeda organization in Yemen
Several events and demonstrationsorganized across France have punctuated the day of January 7, 2025. At the precise time of the attack, several officials, including Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, François Hollande and the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, observed a minute of silence in front of the former premises of the newspaper. At the same time, wreaths of flowers were laid in other major cities, including Limoges and Toulouse.

Miss France 2025 was notably questioned about the terrible attacks that occurred a decade ago. To Gilles Ganzmann who asked her if she was Charlie like so many other French people, the beauty queen a “prefer not to say”.This timid response caused a fire to start on social networks.
As the fire spread at full speed, the thirty-year-old tried to put out the fire on Instagram. “In my role as Miss France, I must be neutrally on certain subjects to éavoid all misunderstandings and cause all controversies”, she justified herself, before conceding: “But I understand that my non-reaction on such a sensitive subject could have caused so many comments”.
The former flight attendant adds in her post that“obviously it would be an aberration to think (that she) could endorse such barbaric acts that leave families in mourning.” “Charlie Hebdo touches on deep issues and of course, freedom of expression is essential in France”, she emphasizes.
The satirical daily did not wait long to take the controversy head on. Journalist and cartoonist Juin published a caricature on the newspaper's accounts where we see three angry mullahs brandishing placards with the inscription: “I am Miss France”. “Miss France is not Charlie!”, we can read in the caption of the illustration.
