Kanye West caught red-handed: rapper gets his knuckles rapped by French singing star

While a video of Kanye West listening to an unreleased composition with a sample of Pomme is circulating on the Web, the French artist has preferred put things to rest clear.

Trouble in the music industry. For a few days now, a mysterious video of Kanye West in the studio has been circulating on social networks. We see him getting into the mood to an unknown sound – perhaps an unreleased composition ? – which nevertheless presents a little familiarity. Indeed, we recognize in l&ear a sample of Pomme's song, Soleil soleil, released in 2019. Did the American artist use without permission a piece by the French singer for her next album ? On Instagram, Pomme has made things clear.

Kanye West caught red-handed: Pomme makes a clarification

“I have never given my consent for the use of this sample for reasons that seem obvious to me, being in deep disagreementwith the political positions of this artist whom I nevertheless greatly admired in the past”, explains the 28-year-old singer. Then he added: “It's sometimes hard to give up on certain opportunities, but I prefer to respect my deep values”. 

While we don't know where this video comes from, or the projects linked to it, the audio we hear, we can easily guess that Kanye West was filmed without his knowledge given his reaction when he saw the lens pointed at him. Indeed, the artist immediately asked the person filming to cut the video. As a reminder, Kanye West has already been accused in the past to use samples from other artists without their consent. 

Kanye West accused of plagiarism in the past

In 2024, Donna Summer's rights holders accused her of using the title I Feel Love on her song Good (Don't Die) without obtaining permission. As for Ozzy Osbourne, singer of the group Black Sabbath, he had pushed a rant on X last February, accusing Kanye West of having used an extract from the song Iron Man during the launch party of his album, despite the refusal of the hard rock group.
