Know Your Child's Grade: What's This Sneaky New Scam ?

We have to face the facts, the school holidays are almost over and the start of the school year, scheduled for Monday, September 2, is fast approaching. With just a few days to go before the deadline, many parents and their children are trying to find out more about what awaits them. Will they be in the same class as their friends ? Who will their teachers be ?

Malicious sites denounced

Taking advantage of this excitement, scammers have gone into action. On Facebook, the National Gendarmerie is warning of a rather vicious scam. Several malicious sites promise to reveal a child's class before it is even officially announced. These include “VoirMaclasse.com” and “RevealClasse.fr”. Two portals that are no longer accessible to this day.

As detailed by France 3 Normandie, the Internet user is asked to provide their personal data. They must then click on links to prove that they are not robots. Except that these are in fact online games. Worse, they are sometimes led to install a browser on their computer. A request that can only encourage caution.

As you can see, you will never know the composition of your child's class or even their teacher. On the other hand, the scammers will have recovered money with your clicks and gotten their hands on your personal data. In some cases, the user may even be redirected to certain hidden subscriptions, our colleagues specify.

Caution is therefore more important than ever and in this matter, we invite you to be a little patient. You should indeed not delay in obtaining this information, in particular by going to your child's establishment.

A very pernicious housing scam

The back-to-school period is in any case conducive to many malicious practices. The site Café Babel rightly warns about the housing scams that are rife.

In Lyon, a foreign student who had been attracted by the photos of an apartment decided to visit it. Everything went well and a young woman introducing herself as the owner's cousin welcomed him. He then signed a lease and paid 1200 euros for the first rent and the security deposit.

It was when he went there that he understood the deception. It was actually an Airbnb rental… So it’s definitely not a bad idea to do some in-depth online research on a property you’re looking to rent.
