Large-scale control campaign on public roads at RATP: six bus drivers tested positive for cannabis while on duty

After the tragedy in Châteaudun where a young student was killed in a bus accident where the driver tested positive for cannabis, checks have intensified. At the RATP, six drivers tested positive during checks in full service.

A series of checks on RATP drivers that took place only a few days after the tragedy in Châteaudun where a student was killed in a bus accident. The driver then tested positive for cannabis during drug tests.

Six drivers tested positive

According to the CGT-RATP union, six drivers tested positive following the tests carried out and were taken into custody. Ahmed Berrahal, a CGT representative for prevention and security, denounced to our colleagues the tests carried out in the middle of the public highway: “This is the first time that buses have been checked on the road. The RATP already checks its drivers when they start work”

“What shocks us is that they are carried out during service, in traffic. “Being checked publicly, what is the image towards users ?”, adds the union representative, specifying that he is not against the checks but rather against their conduct during service.

The drivers are self-tested before the start of their service at the depots, according to the transport company Parisian. For Ahmed Berrahal, “the RATP does not do many (checks at the depots) because it wants its buses to leave on time.”
