Apple is set to unveil its next iPhones in a few weeks. While the release date of the phones is not yet known with certainty, we already know a lot about the technical characteristics of these smartphones. Indeed, the iPhone 16 should be physically similar to their big brothers, released last year.

A little larger in size, the iPhone 16 should above all be more powerful, with a new chip designed for Apple Intelligence. But one of the big new features this year should be the arrival of a new button on the edge of the iPhone.

Apple has reportedly developed a “capture” buttonable to open the camera app with one click. According to the latest information from the specialized media Appleinsider on this subject, users will be able to link any application to this button.

An API has reportedly been set up by Apple to allow third-party developers to take advantage of this new hardware feature on the iPhone 16. The arrival of this button should allow Apple to double the functions of the “Action” button already present on the iPhone 15 Pro.

In addition to a button, Apple has worked on the camera block as a whole. The brand with the apple would have notably reworked the secondary camera of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. It will have a new aperture, going from f/2.4 to f/2.2.

The Pro models should keep a 48 Mpx main sensor with an aperture of f/1.78. The ultra-wide-angle lens would be the big winner of this annual modification. Apple would have chosen a 48 Mpx sensor with 0.7 micrometer pixels.

Finally, the Pro Max will not be entitled to any size changes. The phone's photo sensors should remain the same. At least that's what the Apple insider teams assure in their report.

JPEG-XL

But Apple's changes to the photo part don't just concern the hardware. Indeed, the Apple brand has reportedly developed a new image format in recent months. In addition to ProRaw and HEIF (Apple's in-house solution), the Cupertino firm is reportedly about to introduce the ” JPEG-XL “.

As for video, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max should be able to film in 3K at 120FPS and in Dolby Vision. They could also support 1080p video at 120FPS or 240FPS and 4K at 60FPS.
