IN BRIEF

  • While five people have been arrested as part of the investigation into the death of Liam Payne, new elements have been revealed.
  • Among those charged is Braian Nahuel Paiz, an employee of the hotel where the singer was staying, who allegedly exchanged messages with Liam Payne and also sold him cocaine.
  • He, along with another hotel employee, were remanded in custody and face a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

He is one of the five individuals arrested by the Argentinian authorities. Braian Nahuel Paiz, aged 24, allegedly confessed to having used drugs with the singer, explains The Sun. According to revelations, the man allegedly exchanged WhatsApp messages with Liam Payne, of whom he was a long-time fan. Exchanges that allegedly led him to sell cocaine to the former One Direction member twice before his fall.

Like Ezequiel Pereyra, another employee of the hotel in which the star was staying, Braian Paiz was placed in pre-trial detention by the Argentine authorities. They are both accused of drug trafficking and are suspected of having played a crucial role in the death of Liam Payne. Serious accusations that Paiz's lawyer has strongly denied, while admitting that his client was nevertheless a drug user.

Three other people arrested

In addition to Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra, three other people were arrested by the Argentine police. Among them, Rogelio “Roger” Nors, a close friend of the singer, was charged with negligent homicide. Two other employees of the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, where the singer died, were also charged. Esteban Grassi, who had contacted emergency services shortly before Liam Payne's death, and Gilda Martin, the security officer, have been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

During his hearing, Esteban Grassi had communicated to the investigators messages exchanged with the British singer in which the latter had probably asked for cocaine from a hotel employee shortly after his arrival. Faced with the employee's refusal, Liam Payne allegedly called him “useless'“. The receptionist also explained that the singer had contacted reception, including in the middle of the night, to demand alcohol and obtain information on where he could obtain cocaine.

The suspects are prohibited from leaving Argentina

Pending the final results of the investigation and a possible trial, Roger Nors, Esteban Grassi and Gida Martin have been receiveda ban on leaving Argentina and all their property has been seized. Esteban Grassi and Gilda Martin have notably been identified as two of the people who walked Liam Payne back to his room from the hotel lobby shortly before his fall.

For their part, if their guilt were to be proven, Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra, who are currently in pretrial detention, could face a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. It remains to be seen whether Liam Payne's fall was accidental, or whether a third party could be involved.
